Gwalior Zoo is one of the most visited tourist attractions of Gwalior. It is also known as Gandhi Prani Udhyan or Gandhi Zoo. It is one of the most green and well maintained zoological park in Madhya Pradesh. It was built by Madhao Rao Scindia in 1922 and it was inaugurated by Wales Prince in the same year. The zoo is located inside the big garden which is known as Phool Bagh. Phool Bagh campus also has a Gurudwara and a mosque. Gwalior is visited by lakhs of tourists every year and zoo is an important place to visit while visiting Gwalior.

Gwalior Zoo Animals

Gwalior zoo has some of the rare animals like white tiger, bison, golden pheasants, etc. Main animals which are present in Gandhi zoo are deer, monkeys, Royal Bengal Tiger, serpents, crocodile, spotted deer, sambhar, hyena, lion, rabbits, panther, bear, Hippopotamus, etc. Prani udyan also has some rare and colorful birds, snakes, lizards, etc.

The Zoo opening time is 8 AM and it closes at 6 PM and it remains closed on every Friday. The entry ticket of Gwalior zoo is 50 Rs for adult and 20 Rs for children (5 to 12 years of age). Kids below 5 years of age are eligible for free entry. Foreigners need to pay 150 as a entry fee to the zoo. Student entry fee is 30 Rs by showing ID card. Physically handicapped person can get free entry inside the zoo. At least two hours is sufficient to cover the Zoo.

How to Reach Gwalior Zoo

Gwalior is a heritage city and it is connected by air, rail and road from all parts of the country. Gwalior has many places to visit and it is visited by tourist by round the year. The Zoo is located near mayor office in Fool Bagh. It can be reached from all parts of Gwalior easily. It is located in the center of the city in Phool Bagh and you will easily get plenty of options to reach there. The visitor can use public transport or hire a cab to reach the zoo. It is less than 2 KM away from Gwalior Railway Station.

Gandhi Prani Udhyan (Zoo) is located just opposite to the shopping mall of Gwalior (Dindayal Mall or DD Mall). In Dindayal Mall tourist can enjoy the meal in McDonald’s, Dominos or can try local food of Gwalior. Gwalior fort can also be seen from the zoo and it is just 3 KM away.
