It is a large white marble building built in 1921 in the memory of Queen Victoria. Now it is converted into a museum and visitors can visit this place by paying a nominal fee for entry. It is located on the banks of the Hooghly river. It is one of the most visited tourist destinations of Kolkata and it is very popular among the local residents.

About Victoria Memorial History
Victoria Memorial was built in the memory of Queen Victoria. Foundation stone of this monument was laid by Prince of Wales on 4 January 1906. William Emerson was the architecture of this grand building. Almost 15 years took on the construction of the memorial. It is made of white Makrana marble. It was opened for general public in 1921. It is surrounded by huge garden and they are spread in an area of 64 acres. It has around 30 thousand items as of 2009.
Victoria memorial Timing
Memorial is spreads in large area. The timings of memorial gallery and gardens are different. Below are the timings of Victoria memorial and garden.
Victoria Memorial Gallery Timings: It remains open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM. Monday is the week off. Ticket counters closes at 4.30 PM. Victoria Memorial Hall gallery also closes on national holidays.
Victoria Memorial Gardens Timing: Garden opens early in the morning at 5.30 and it closes at 6.00 in the evening. Garden remains open seven days of the week.
Victoria Memorial Hall Free Guided Tour Timings
Free guided tour of 35 to 40 minute duration are also organized here. Timings of these tours are 11 AM to 12 PM, 1 PM to 2 PM and 3 PM to 4 PM.
Light and Sound Show Timings: Duration of the show is 45 minutes and show is running in Bengali, English and Hindi language.

Light and Sound show are also organized at this monument. Advance booking of the show is not possible. Tickets can be bought from East Gate on Cathedral Road, ticket counter open at 5:40 PM.

Victoria Memorial Facilities and Information
- Parking : There is no parking facility available for the visitors. It is suggested that reach the memorial through public transport or the taxi.
- Camera : Cameras are not allowed inside the hall and photography is strictly prohibited through the mobile phones also. Visitors can take photo outside the hall.
