About Birla Mandir Kolkata History

Birla temple is built by the Birla family. Construction of the temple was begun in 1970 and it took almost 26 years to build the temple. It is made of white marble and it was inaugurated by Karan Singh 21 February, 1996 after the Pran Prathistha. The temple is 160 feet high and it spreads in a large area.

Entry is completely free in the temple for all. The Mandir morning opening time is 5.30 in the morning. Temple timings are 5.30 A.M. to 11 A.M. and 4.30 P.M. to 9 P.M. It remains closed from 11 AM to 4.30 PM.Check the timings before making any plans for the temple. Various aartis are performed at the temple throughout the day as per the schedule. Evening art is very good and visitors who are present here, should attend the evening Aarti. 30 to 45 minutes visit is sufficient to visit this place and it is crowded on Sunday, weekends, evening time, and holidays. Visit this temple during the holidays and Aarti time can take at least 2 hours to visit the Mandir.

Facility and Information


The temple is located on the main road, therefore, finding a right place is quite difficult. Shoes are not allowed inside and they can be deposited at cloakroom for a minimal charge of 10 Rs. Water bottles, bags, camera, mobiles, umbrella, etc. is not allowed inside. Photography is banned inside the complex, however, you can click the Kolkata Birla temple picture from the outside. Mobiles can be deposited in the locker.

The nearest metro stations to the temple are Maidan Metro Station, Kalighat, and Rabindra station.
