Cubbon Park is located in the central area of Bengaluru city of Karnataka. They are called the lungs of the Bangalore city. Official name of Cubbon Park is Sri Chamarajendra Park. It was founded in 1870 and now its spreads over an area of 300 acre. Major General Richard Sankey was the British Chief Engineer of Mysore state in 1870 and he created this park within the city limits. Initially park name was Meade’s Park on the name of then acting Commissioner Sir John Meade. Later park name was changed after the longest serving commissioner Sir Mark Cubbon. Current name of the park is on the name of Sri Chamarajendra Wodeyar who is 19th-century ruler. Park is still popularly known as Cubbon Park and it is one of the most visited and popular place of Bangalore.

Park is maintained by Department of Horticulture, Karnataka. Cubbon Park is spread in a large area and park measured area is 1.2 square km. The park is regularly visited by daily morning walkers along with many tourists. Every area of park is connected through walking path. A motorable road is also here which allows light motor vehicles inside the park. Park is closed for motor vehicles in the morning from 5 AM to 8 AM to provide fresh environment for morning walkers. It is visited by techies, visitors, groups, couples, families, travelers, etc throughout the day. It is a beautiful place with large variety of flora and fauna. Many historical building and monuments are situated inside the park. St Mark’s Church, band stand, central library, Indira Priyadarshini Children’s Library, art gallery, aquarium, YMCA, press club, bal bhavan, etc are located inside the Sri Chamarajendra Park.

  • Historical buildings and Monuments

It has many monuments and historical buildings which are integral parts of the park. Central library is located inside the park and it is state’s largest public library. Venkatappa Art Gallery is also located inside the park which is helpful in visitors which are interested in work of Indian painters. Youth center, YMCA, press club, bal bhavan, etc are also located in the park.

  • Cubbon Park Aquarium

Aquarium is one the most popular section of the park and it is most visited area of the park. It is state largest aquarium and second largest in India. Is has wide variety of fresh water and sea water exotic creatures. The diamond shaped building of the aquarium has three floors and every floor has various type of tanks and fishes. A nominal entry fee is charged from visitors to enter inside the Cubbon Park Aquarium.

  • Toy Train

It is most popular attraction among the kids. It is known as Putani express. This train runs through the circumference of the park through the greenery and heritage buildings of the Cubbon park. Toy train ride is on chargeable basis. Ticket price for kid is 10 Rs and ticket price for adult is 30 Rs.

The timings of Cubbon Park are from 6 AM to 6 PM. 6 AM to 8 PM is strictly for morning walkers and vehicle movement is restricted inside the park in the morning. Park remains closed every Monday and second Tuesday of the month.

Cubbon Park Entry Fee and Charges

Entry to Cubbon park is totally free for all age groups. Some rides and activities are situated inside the park on a chargeable basis. Visitors need to pay a nominal amount for Toy train rides, Jawahar Bal Bhavan, rides, aquarium, etc.

Best Time to Visit Cubbon Park

Cubbon park attracts visitors throughout the year. September to February is considered the best time to visit Cubbon park. During this time, the temperature is good for long walks and many migratory birds can also be seen during this period.  Cool breezes throughout these months provide a comfortable environment for all the activities inside the park. In the summer seasons, the temperature remains under 35 °C. Morning and evening time is most suitable during summer months. The rainy season is also the perfect time to explore the flora and fauna of Cubbon park. During this time, you can enjoy the green landscape in Cubbon park.

All the facilities are available inside the park. 4 parking lots are available to park vehicles. Cameras are allowed inside the park for photoshoots. Commercial photoshoots are allowed after proper approval from the authorities. Basic amenities inside the park are available for the convenience of visitors. Food is allowed inside the park to enjoy a picnic. Always maintain discipline when visiting public places.
