Mahabodhi Temple is a Bodh temple located in Bodh Gaya city of Bihar State. This city is mostly visited by Buddhist pilgrimage to offer their prayers to Gautama Buddha. Got the status of UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002 and one of the most visited tourist attraction of Bodh Gaya and Bihar. This temple is dedicated to Lord Gautam Buddha and descendant of the Bodhi tree is situated inside the complex. Siddhartha Gautama got the enlightenment under the Bodhi tree and after that, he is known as Gautam Buddha.
Mahabodhi Temple Architecture
Samrat Ashok visited this place 200 years later after the enlightenment of Gautam Buddha. He made a monastery and shrine on this place. The structure has been disappeared nowadays. The current structure of the temple is look-alike of the Hindu and Jain temples and it is influenced by Buddhist architecture. The main temple is 180 feet high and the total complex is spread in an area of 4.86 hectares.

Bodhgaya timings are from 5 AM to 9 PM. It remains closed from 12 PM to 4 PM in the afternoon time. On everyday, it opens on 5 in the morning and closed at 9 in the night. Sutta chanting and meditation performed from 5.30 AM to 6 AM and in the evening it performed from 6 PM to 6.30 PM. Pali performed every day from 6.30 PM to 7 PM. Temple remains open throughout the year.
Entry is completely free for all, however, visitors need to pay a fee of 100 Rs to bring a camera with them. Mobile phones are not allowed inside the premises. Guides can be hired by paying a fee of 200 Rs. Lockers are available in the temple free of cost. Ramps are there for elder people and toilets are also present in the complex. Shoes cannot be wear during the visit of this place. Shoes can be deposited in the locker free of cost.

Temple is located in Bodh Gaya city on the banks of Falgu river. It is the most visited and famous place of the city visited by thousand of pilgrimage every day. The capital city of Bihar, Patna is around 110 KM from here. Gaya city is around 13 KM from here. Visitors can reach Bodh Gaya by different means of transport like Air, Rail, and road. Gaya airport is the nearest airport to the city and it is just 10 KM from the temple. This airport has limited connectivity and Patna airport provides better connectivity which is around 115 KM from here. Gaya Junction is the nearest railway station and provides with connectivity with all parts of the country. It is near to temple and 15 KM far from here.
