Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum is the most popular museum in Bangalore. The museum is named after the former Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya who was a civil engineer in British Government. He contributed to making a modern and advanced Mysore. He also served as a Prime minister of the Kingdom of Mysore and was very famous among the southern Indian People. To represent the honor to Sir M Visvesvaraya Mysore State Board and all India manufacturer organizations create the science and technology museum. On 15th September 1958, the foundation was laid for this museum. In India every year on his birthday i.e. 15th September Engineers Day is celebrated. He had been also awarded the Bharat Ratna through the Government of India.
The Visvesvaraya Industrial & Technological Museum was established on 14th July 1962 and its first exhibition for the public opened on 27th July 1965 for electricity. Till now more than 1 million visitors have visited this beautiful museum. This museum has many attractive hallways like Engine Hall, Fun Science gallery, Space-Emerging Technology in the service of mankind, How things work, Electro Technic gallery, Bel Hall of Electronics, Science for kids gallery, Dinosaur Alive exhibitions, Biotechnological Revolution, etc. This museum is a store of knowledge and facts. This museum has a kids and children section also.
The Ministry of Culture introduced a new organization on 4th April 1978 named it “The National Council of Science Museums (NCSM)” under the Government of India. NCSM is the biggest chain of museums and science centers in the world. Visvesvaraya museum has been brought under the NCSM in 1978.
